Abstract

Night shift nurses often experience poor sleep quality due to work schedules that conflict with the body’s natural circadian rhythm. Declining sleep quality can negatively impact job performance, overall health, and increase the risk of workplace accidents. This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting the sleep quality of night shift nurses. A cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was conducted. The sample consisted of 60 night shift nurses selected through total sampling. Data were collected online using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Expanded Nursing Stress Scale (ENSS), and a demographic questionnaire. Data were analyzed through univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using the chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression. The results showed that age (p=0.005), length of service (p=0.035), and work stress (p=0.018) were significantly associated with sleep quality, while gender and caffeine consumption were not. Multivariate analysis revealed that age was the most dominant factor influencing sleep quality (POR=5.116). These findings highlight the importance of considering age in night shift scheduling to help maintain nurses’ sleep quality.
