Abstract

Contact dermatitis (CD) is an inflammatory skin condition caused by continuous exposure to irritants or allergens, which often occurs in steam cleaning workers. The incidence of dermatitis in Bekasi City increased from 2022 to 2023. This study aims to identify the determinants influencing contact dermatitis symptoms among steam cleaning workers in North Bekasi District in 2025. The study was conducted from April to June 2025 in North Bekasi District. The study design used was a cross-sectional study. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Primary data on individual factors were collected through interviews with respondents, and environmental factors were measured using a hygrometer. A total of 110 respondents were selected as the sample using purposive sampling. Based on the study results, 68 out of 110 respondents (61.8%) were identified as experiencing contact dermatitis symptoms. Factors significantly associated with contact dermatitis symptoms include contact frequency (p-value = 0.001), use of PPE (p-value = 0.014), and personal hygiene (p-value = 0.001). It is recommended that steam laundry workers always use PPE and improve their habits in maintaining personal hygiene after contact with irritants.
