Abstract

Dating violence (DV) is a serious problem among adolescents with high prevalence in urban areas. Approximately 1 in 3 women experience violence from their partners. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with dating violence victimization among high school students in East Jakarta. The research used mixed methods sequential explanatory design with cross-sectional analysis for quantitative data and phenomenology for qualitative analysis. The population consisted of high school students in East Jakarta with 389 students selected using proportional purposive cluster sampling from 10 districts. Six qualitative informants were selected based on respondents with highest DV scores using purposive sampling. Quantitative instruments included CADRI, RSES, and BAI questionnaires, while qualitative instruments used in-depth interview guidelines. Quantitative data analysis used chi-square and Cox regression tests, qualitative used thematic analysis. Results showed 181 students (46.5%) experienced dating violence. Relationship duration (p<0.001) was significantly associated with DV, with self-confidence (p=0.010) and anxiety (p=0.013) as confounding factors. Qualitative results revealed victims experienced emotional dependency, fear of abandonment, and difficulty leaving toxic relationships. Relationship duration >12 months was the dominant factor with 2.033 times greater risk (95% CI: 1.503-2.748). Programs for healthy relationship education and student understanding of violence recognition are recommended.
