Abstract
The increasing demand for healthcare services has driven hospitals to implement shift work systems to ensure continuous care. However, shift patterns that are inconsistent with the body’s biological rhythms often cause sleep disturbances, one of which is shift work sleep disorder. This condition negatively affects nurses performance, productivity, sleep quality, patient safety, and service quality. This study aimed to identify factors associated with SWSD among nurses at Hermina Sukabumi General Hospital in 2025. A cross-sectional design was applied with 117 respondents. The study was conducted from May to June 2025. The results showed that 75 nurses (64.1%) experienced shift work sleep disorder. Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between shift work sleep disorder and age (p = 0.012), sleep quality (p = 0.030), length of employment (p = 0.003), shift schedule (p = 0.050), and workload (p = 0.032). In conclusion, age, sleep quality, length of employment, shift patterns, and workload are factors significantly related to shift work sleep disorder. Nurses are advised to improve sleep hygiene by sleeping 6–8 hours after night shifts, in a dark and comfortable room, avoiding caffeine before sleep, engaging in physical activity, and maintaining consistent sleep routines.
