Abstract

Diabetes is one of the chronic diseases whose prevalence continues to increase in Indonesia, with the number of sufferers predicted to reach 28.6 million people in 2045. Along with the increasing cases of diabetes, the use of herbal plants as an alternative treatment is increasingly in demand because it has milder side effects than conventional drugs. However, the selection of the right herbal plants is often hampered by the lack of valid and reliable scientific information. This study aims to design a decision support system for selecting herbal plants in the treatment of diabetes, by implementing a combination of the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methods. The SAW method is used for data weighting and normalization, while the TOPSIS method is applied to determine the final ranking of alternative herbal plants based on the criteria of efficacy, phytochemical composition, side effects, price, and ease of finding. The web-based decision support system created successfully provides accurate calculation results, in accordance with the results of manual calculations. With this system, the decision-making process in selecting herbal plants for the treatment of diabetes becomes more structured, objective, and can provide appropriate recommendations for users. This research is also expected to contribute to enriching scientific literature related to the application of SAW and TOPSIS methods in the health sector.
