Abstract

Filariasis is a public health problem that causes significant morbidity globally, with manifestations of permanent disability. This study aims to identify the determinants and mapping of filariasis incidence in Indonesia. The study design used was cross-sectional with secondary data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI). A sample size of 877,470 respondents were analyzed after weighting using multivariate analysis with multiple logistic regression. The prevalence of filariasis in Indonesia reached 1.5% (95% CI = 1.5%-1.6%). Based on mapping results, the province with the highest number of cases was West Java (2.403 cases), while Central Papua had the highest endemicity (4.8%). Multivariate analysis found that the provision of filariasis prevention drugs (aPOR = 1.219; 95% CI: 1.161-1.280), use mosquito repellent (aPOR = 1,105; 95% CI: 1,069-1,145), destruction used goods (aPOR = 1,066; 95% CI: 1,030-1,104), place of residence (aPOR = 1,066; 95% CI: 1,029-1,105), age (aPOR = 0,930; 95% CI: 0,895-0,966), occupation (aPOR = 0,916; 95% CI: 0,881-0,952), livestock ownership (aPOR = 0,913; 95% CI: 0,871-0,956), and drug provision in non-priority POPM areas (aPOR = 0,443; 95% CI: 0,419-0,468) were significantly associated with filariasis incidence. Provision of filariasis prevention drugs was the dominant variable. Direct supervision, personal education, and year round drug availability are recommended to improve the provision of filariasis prevention drugs.
