Abstract

Nature and climate have a significant impact on many aspects of human life. One renewable energy source that can be converted into electrical energy to meet human needs is wind energy. This research investigates the Darrieus type H rotor wind turbine because the turbine is a type of vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) with low-medium wind speeds. The airfoil blade used is NACA 0015. The variation used is using a wind deflector with the addition of 6 and 12 blades and varying angles of 45°, 60°, 65°. This research was carried out with a wind speed of 8 m/s and a TSR value of 2. This research problem was solved using the CFD method with Ansys Fluent software. This numerical simulation runs with the Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations used to describe the transient state. The conclusion is that the Darrieus type H wind turbine with the addition of a wind deflector on 6 blades with an angle of 60° has the best performance. Obtained a very significant increase in the power coefficient (CP) previously obtained by clean airfoil, namely 0.305 to 0.568 by using a 6-blade wind deflector at an angle of 60° with a percentage increase of 86%. This happens because at a 60º angle the wind deflector has 6 blades, the air from the wind deflector exhaust can be utilized properly by the Darrieus type H turbine.
