Abstract

This study aims to analyze the thermo-economics of the combined gas turbine cycle system on an HZ LNG ship using various working fluids, such as 〖CO〗_2, R600a, R32, R717, R1234yf, and R290. The main focus of this research is to calculate and analyze thermal efficiency, power requirements, as well as economic feasibility using NPV, IRR, and PBP indicators. Results show that R717 provides the highest thermal efficiency of 45.40% at 403 K, while R600a achieves an optimal balance between thermal efficiency of 43.98% and low power of 50.73 kWh. The system without the additional loop is more economical at low rental rates, with an NPV of $100.505 million and an IRR of 15.18% at a rate of $40,000/day. In contrast, the system with the additional loop is more profitable at high rental rates with an NPV of $64.171 million and an IRR of 12.21% at a rate of $60,000/day. The study concludes that R600a fluid is suitable for systems that prioritize energy efficiency and operating costs, while R717 is ideal for large-scale applications. The combined gas turbine cycle system as a whole was shown to improve energy and economic performance compared to conventional systems, especially in the context of thermal efficiency and operational savings.
