Abstract

The rise of violence against women is a reference to provide maximum protection to women. There is a development of violence against women in the global world, it is possible that women's violence is defined as femicide which is an act of killing or extreme violence against women. The majority of femicide perpetrators are misogynists, someone who hates women because their gender is female. To date, there is no legislation in Indonesia that regulates or even mentions the words femicide or misgonist. Victims of femicide, whether killed by the perpetrator or still alive, must be given maximum protection. The perpetrators need to be prosecuted and punished with penalties that provide a deterrent effect because the victims also experience many bad and negative effects from the actions taken by the perpetrators, such as physical and mental trauma, psychological disorders, prolonged pain, and so on. Seeing the number of femicide cases that occurred in Indonesia during 2024 makes the urgency of a Femicide Law in Indonesia even higher. The push for the existence of the Femicide Law in Indonesia has also been initiated by the National Commission on Women and activists. Countries that have implemented Femicide Laws, such as Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina have provided maximum protection to women in their countries so that they have the right to live safely and be protected by law. Although there are already laws, such as the Criminal Code, the Law on the Elimination of Domestic Violence, the Law on Sexual Violence, the Femicide Law still has a high urgency to maximize the protection of women.
