Abstract

Hypertension is a condition of abnormal and persistent increase in blood pressure. Risk factors for hypertension consist of factors that cannot be modified and factors that can be modified, such as coffee consumption habits and inadequate sleep duration. This study aims to analyze the relationship between coffee consumption habits and sleep duration with hypertension in early adulthood. The research design used a cross-sectional study with a purposive sampling technique, involving 74 respondents from hypertension patients in early adulthood. Data was collected through a modified coffee consumption habits questionnaire and the Sleep Timing Questionnaire (STQ). The Spearman test results show a p-value of 0.031 and 0.042, which indicates a significant relationship. The Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.251 shows a positive relationship between coffee consumption and hypertension, meaning that the higher the coffee consumption, the higher the risk of hypertension. The coefficient -0.237 shows a negative relationship between sleep duration and hypertension, meaning that the lower the sleep duration, the higher the prevalence of hypertension. The relationship between the two is in the low category (0.200-0.399). Future research is recommended to explore other factors that influence hypertension to provide more comprehensive insight.
