Abstract
Climate change caused by carbon emissions is a natural phenomenon that is felt by almost all countries, and ASEAN is no exception. ASEAN is one of the regions with a large level of carbon emissions where Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand or ASEAN-5 are the largest contributors to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in this region. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Economic Growth (GDP), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and Deforestation variables on Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions in ASEAN-5 in 2010-2022. The sample in this study was 65 data obtained through the World Bank, Our World in Data, and Global Forest Watch. The analysis technique used is panel data regression with Random Effect Model (REM) as the best model selected. The results showed that (1) Economic Growth (GDP) has a significant positive effect on CO2 emissions in ASEAN-5. (2) Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has a significant positive effect on CO2 emissions in ASEAN-5. And (3) Deforestation has a significant positive effect on CO2 emissions in ASEAN-5. Simultaneously or together that Economic Growth (GDP), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and Deforestation have a positive and significant effect on CO2 Emissions in ASEAN-5.
