Abstract

Energy demand in ASEAN is among the fastest-growing in the world, with Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines being the countries with the largest renewable energy potential in the region. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of energy consumption, GDP, and emissions on renewable energy in 5 ASEAN countries from 2013-2022. This study uses a quantitative approach with panel data regression analysis employing a fixed effect model for the period 2013-2022. The data used are obtained from the Energy Institute and Our World in Data. The results of the study indicate that energy consumption and GDP have a significant positive effect on renewable energy. Meanwhile, emissions do not have a significant effect on renewable energy. The increase in GDP and energy consumption in ASEAN opens up significant opportunities for investment in renewable energy. The positive relationship between GDP and energy consumption towards renewable energy underscores the importance of policy support and technological investment to accelerate the transition towards cleaner energy sources.
