Abstract
Household consumption expenditure plays a central role in Indonesia's economy, contributing more than 50-60% to the national GDP, reflecting the importance of purchasing power as the driving force of economic growth. From a Keynesian perspective, consumption drives economic activity through the multiplier effect. This study aims to analyze the effects of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), per capita income, and unemployment rate on per capita consumption expenditure in Indonesia before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The research utilizes panel data from 33 provinces in Indonesia over the 2015–2023 period. The analytical method employed is panel data regression using a fixed-effects model. The findings reveal that GRDP and per capita income have a positive and significant effect on per capita consumption expenditure, while the unemployment rate has a negative and significant effect. The interaction between the pandemic dummy variable and the independent variables shows that the influence of GRDP remained consistent across both periods, whereas the negative impact of unemployment on consumption intensified during the pandemic. These results support Keynesian theory, which posits that income and economic activity significantly influence household consumption. This study concludes by emphasizing the importance of economic policies that foster GRDP growth, increase per capita income, and reduce unemployment rates to maintain consumption stability amidst economic challenges.
