Abstract

Diabetes is one of the fastest growing diseases and a global health emergency. The prevalence of infertility increases as the prevalence of diabetes increases. This research is a true experimental with post-test control group design to five treatment groups, namely positive control, negative control, and three groups of extracts with doses of 100, 150, 200 mg/kgBB. This research aims to determine the effect of Kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) leaf extract on sperm motility and viability of diabetic mice due to streptozotocin induction. The results of the study were seen from the mean of sperm motility and viability in each group. The Kersen leaf extract group showed an increase in the mean motility and viability of spermatozoa, when compared to the positive control. The K3 group with the highest dose, 200 mg/kgBB, had a mean value of normal sperm motility of 85.9% and a mean value of viability of 82.9%. The results showed a significant relationship between motility and viability of spermatozoa of streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice (Mus musculus L.) with the administration of kersen leaf extract (Muntingia calabura L.), namely the higher dose of extract is given, the greater motility and viability of normal mice spermatozoa is increased.
