Abstract
Broken home events are a phenomenon that tends to occur in several communities from the past until now. Children who come from incomplete families often experience mental and psychological disorders, making them more vulnerable to stress because their concentration is disturbed and making children less independent. This research aims to understand how communication patterns in broken home families affect children's independence in Kasihan Hamlet, Tegalombo District, Pacitan Regency. The communication theory used in this research is Family Communication Pattern, to find out how family members communicate using four family communication patterns, namely laize-faire, protective, pluralistic and consensual family communication patterns. Using qualitative research methods with a case study approach. The technique used in data collection was observation, then indepth interviews and documentation. Data analysis uses data reduction steps, data presentation, drawing conclusions. The results show that the four informant families have different family communication patterns where each family has its own communication pattern after experiencing a divorce, but of the 5 (five) informant families the majority use pluralistic communication patterns, namely there is mutual openness so that there is a good communication relationship. good, there is a positive attitude, supportive attitude, mutual respect, and provides freedom of opinion. This research concludes that the communication patterns applied in broken home families greatly influence the child's level of independence, where more open and dialogical communication patterns support the development of better independence. It is hoped that these findings can become the basis for interventions aimed at increasing children's independence in the context of broken home families.
