Abstract
Stroke is a serious medical condition that occurs due to brain tissue damage and can be life-threatening. The prevalence of stroke in Indonesia is 10.9 per thousand, with the highest prevalence in East Kalimantan Province at 14.7 per thousand. According to WHO, there is an increase in the prevalence of stroke in several countries, estimated to reach 1.5 million by 2025. This is very concerning, as stroke can impact both morbidity and mortality. This study aims to analyze risk factors in respondents living in rural and urban areas of East Kalimantan based on the 2018 Riskesdas data. This research is quantitative with a cross-sectional analytical observational study design. The data analysis used includes the chi-square test and binary logistic regression with a sample of 4,558 respondents. The multivariate analysis results show that hypertension (p=0.000; AOR 4.378; 95% CI 2.824-6.789), age (p=0.000; AOR 2.820; 95% CI 1.853-4.292), heart disease (p=0.002; AOR 2.496; 95% CI 1.416-4.397), occupation (p=0.000; AOR 2.303; 95% CI 1.448-3.350), consumption of fatty foods (p=0.000; AOR 0.567; 95% CI 0.332-0.776), and consumption of salty foods (p=0.005; AOR 0.567; 95% CI 0.380-0.844) have significant associations with the incidence of stroke in this study. The conclusion of this research is that hypertension is the most influential risk factor for stroke in the age group ≥ 35 years in East Kalimantan.
