Abstract
Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2020 has impacted the energy stability of the Baltic states, particularly Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The interdependence of energy markets, established during their time as part of the Soviet Union, is now being challenged as the Baltic states are increasingly moving away from Russia in response to the invasion. This has resulted in energy security consequences, with the Baltic states needing to find alternative energy sources and open up new energy markets. Renewable energy is also being considered as an option for household energy supply in the Baltic states. The research aimed to understand the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on energy security in the Baltics, particularly regarding the availability of household energy supply. The research used qualitative methods, including a literature review and interviews. The research utilized theories of energy politics and energy security. The findings show that the Baltic countries face energy security threats due to decreased supply and increased prices, leading to inflation and hardship for their citizens. The impact of the Russia-Ukraine war from 2019 to 2023 significantly affected energy supply in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania necessitating the search for alternative energy sources, opening new energy markets and improving connectivity with other European countries. Keywords: Russian Invasion of Ukraine, Energy Security, Energy Politics, Baltic States
