Abstract
The high demand of Indonesian people who want practicality in carrying drinking water has increased the use of plastic bottles, making Indonesia the world's 8th largest producer of plastic waste. This research aims to utilize plastic waste bottles made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and palm shells to make composites to reduce waste. Variations in particle size of palm shells as filler were used to determine the effect on tensile strength with variations in reinforcing particle sizes of 230, 250, and 300 mesh. These research tensile strength tests were carried out based on ASTM D638 standards using hand lay-up and extrusion manufacturing methods. Based on the data obtained, the highest tensile strength and elastic modulus values were produced by the extrusion manufacturing method with a reinforcing particle size of 300 mesh, namely with an average tensile strength of 14,934 MPa and an elastic modulus value of 73,906 MPa
