Abstract

Mengkudu leaves have been proven to have potential as an acne-causing antibacterial because they contain high flavonoid. Gel facial wash is a a type of cosmetic product used to clean faces. Gelling agent as a gel base can determine the stability of gel facial wash. The aim of this research is to determine the most optimal gel formula of physical and chemical stability and to determine the influence of varied concentration of carbopol 940. The method used is experimental laboratory by doing the physical and chemical stability test on three types of formulations with varied concentration of carbopol 940 which are 0,5%, 1%, and 1,5%. The results of this research show formula 1 with a concentration of carbopol 940 1% is the most optimal formula of physical and chemical stability after 30 days showing a blackish-brown color, extract odor, viscous texture, homogenous preparation, pH 6,25, dispersion 6,45 cm, adhesion 3,38 seconds, foam stability 87,32%, viscocity 4.821 cP, and total flavonoid concentration 9,45 mg QE/g. The conclusion of this research shows that varied concentration of carbopol 940 influences organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, adhesion, and viscocity of the formula. However, it doesn’t influence dispersion, foam stability, and total flavonoid concentration of the formula.
