Abstract
Stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, causing brain function to be rapidly impaired. Stroke patients who experience respiratory failure and require ventilators are admitted to the ICU. Complications that often occur in these patients are VAP and mortality. Tracheostomy is performed to reduce complications which are divided into two times, those early and late. This study aims to determine the timing of tracheostomy with the outcome of stroke patients in the ICU. The research method used analytical observations with a retrospective approach for 2 years (2022-2023) and the sampling technique used total sampling with a total sample of 55 respondents. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive tests, Chi Square and Fisher Exact tests. The results of the Chi Square test analysis showed a significant relationship between the time of tracheostomy action and the incidence of VAP with a p-value of 0.004 <0.05 and an OR of 0.073. Meanwhile, the results of the Fisher Exact test analysis showed no significant relationship between the time of tracheostomy and the incidence of mortality with a p-value of 0.059> 0.05. This study are expected to be input for hospitals and nurses in considering SETScore for early tracheostomy, especially in stroke patients.
