Abstract

Cases of online gender-based violence (OGBV) in Indonesia have continue to increase, in 2021 the number of cases increased by 83% from 2020. Forms of online gender-based violence include online surveillance, cyber harassment, image-based sexual abuse, voyeurism, sexploitation, sextortion, doxxing, defamation, impersonating, hate speech, hacking, and child OGBV. This study aims to analyze the risk factors that affect the incidence of online gender-based violence among adolescent users of X/Twitter accounts. This is a quantitative research study using a cross-sectional design with a total of 214 respondents on X/Twitter. The result showed that 51.9% of respondents experienced online gender-based violence. The multivariate analysis showed that factors significantly associated with the incidence of online gender-based violence were education level (AOR 2,086), sexual orientation (AOR 2,652), and experience of violence (AOR 5,108). The most dominant factor is the experience of violence. It can be concluded that the factors that have a significant relationship are the level of education, sexual orientation, and experience of violence with the experience of violence as the most dominant factor. Therefore, adolescents should use the internet wisely to access information about the risk and prevention of online gender-based violence, and report incidents of violence they experience to relevant stakeholders.
