Abstract

The absorption refrigeration system is a cooling process that uses heat to evaporate and reabsorb the refrigerant, eliminating the need for a compressor. Currently, absorption refrigeration systems are among the environmentally friendly technologies that can reduce carbon emissions and high electricity costs associated with compressors. Therefore, absorption refrigeration systems are suitable for use in cooling fish on fishing vessels. The aim of this study is to determine the performance of the condenser used in absorption refrigeration systems on fishing vessels. The analysis process uses heat transfer equations with variations in inlet and outlet condenser temperatures and five different materials: Stainless Steel, Iron (Fe), Copper (Cu), Aluminum (Al), and Brass. The analysis focuses solely on the condenser to identify which material is the most effective in terms of condenser performance. The analysis results include the values of the overall heat transfer coefficient, LMTD (Log Mean Temperature Difference), and the heat transfer rate for each condition. The highest overall heat transfer coefficient was obtained with Copper (Cu) at 5144.538 W/m°C, with a thermal conductivity value of 390 W/m°C. Additionally, the highest LMTD value was 63.54 °C, achieved with an inlet condenser temperature of 55ºC and an outlet condenser temperature of 150ºC. The analysis also showed that the highest condenser heat transfer rate was obtained with Copper (Cu) under condition III, with an inlet condenser temperature of 55ºC and an outlet condenser temperature of 150ºC, at 20529.14 kW. Meanwhile, the lowest condenser heat transfer rate was found with Stainless Steel under condition I, with an inlet condenser temperature of 40ºC and an outlet condenser temperature of 90ºC, at 6411.42 kW. However, the choice of material is also considered economically, with Iron (Fe) being the cheapest material currently available, costing around Rp. 50,000 per meter. Thus, this study can serve as a fundamental reference in the development of absorption refrigeration system technology on fishing vessels, advancing the fishing and shipping industries in Indonesia with this technology
