Abstract

This research aims to examine changes in distortion values in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) welding with V Joint connections on SS 400 steel, using a simulation approach with Simufact Welding software and direct testing. The main focus of this research is to compare the percentage difference in distortion values between the two methods and evaluate the effectiveness of the clamping method in reducing distortion. Simulations were carried out to model and predict changes in distortion with various welding parameters and clamping configurations, while direct testing was carried out to validate the simulation results. The clamping method is expected to reduce deformation and distortion that occurs during the welding process. The research results show that there is a significant difference in distortion values between the simulation results and direct testing. The effectiveness of clamping in reducing distortion was tested and compared, showing that clamping significantly reduces distortion values in both simulation and live testing. This analysis brings the result of distortion simulation and experiment value comparison of 69,8%.
