Abstract

Introduction: In 2022, Indonesia will have the third highest number of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) cases in the world; this number is estimated to reach 969,000, or one person every 33 seconds (World Health Organization, 2021). Pulmonary TB is an infectious disease that mainly attacks the lung parenchyma and can also damage the kidneys, bones, and lymph nodes. Method: This research design uses a case study approach with the implementation of nursing care for patients with pulmonary TB, which is based on prior consent from the patient and family. Results: After providing nursing care for 3 x 24 hours, nursing problems were found in the form of ineffective airway clearance, ineffective breathing patterns, and impaired comfort. Based on the nursing care that has been implemented, there is effectiveness in providing effective non-pharmacological cough therapy to overcome the problem of ineffective airway clearance. This is supported by the theory that effective coughing is a non-pharmacological action that can release retained secretions. Conclusions: Interventions carried out on Mr. P are considered effective for reducing the shortness of breath experienced by patients. It is hoped that this intervention can continue to be applied to pulmonary TB patients whose main problem is ineffective airway clearance.
