Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis or commonly referred to as Pulmonary TB is a contagious infectious disease and is one of the diseases that contributes to the largest deaths in the world. Lung Tb is closely related to ineffective airway clearance, so the application of effective cough and chest physiotherapy can help clear airway ineffectiveness. Methods: The research design used was descriptive case study with a single case study and patients selected using purposive sampling technique at Tarakan Hospital. With the inclusion criteria of BTA (+) Lung Tb patients who experience a buildup of secretions and cannot effectively remove phlegm. Data collection was done by interview, observation, and physical examination. Using observation sheets, watches, and oxymeters Results: the patient complained of difficulty expelling phlegm, coughing, difficulty speaking and shortness of breath so that the diagnosis raised in this case was ineffective airway clearance by applying effective coughing and chest physiotherapy for 5 days in the morning and evening with a duration of 15-20 minutes and the results obtained were the ability to cough effectively, the scale of tightness became normal, the sound of ronkhi was reduced, the frequency of breathing became normal. Conclusion: the application of effective cough can have an effect on ineffective airway clearance.
