Abstract
Background: The perinatal and postpartum periods are critical periods for women due to changes in physiology, social situations and psychological well-being, which can affect sleep quality. Sleep problems, such as poor sleep quality and sleep disturbances, are common in perinatal and postpartum women. Using bergamot essential oil before bed helps calm the mind and body and provides restful sleep. Objective: This case study aims to analyze the application of evidence based practice in the form of bergamot essential oil aromatherapy intervention in improving sleep quality in postpartum mothers who experience problems with sleep pattern disorders. Method: This case study was carried out with a duration of bergamot essential oil aromatherapy inhalation intervention for four weeks. The assessment instrument in this case study uses the Postpartum Sleep Quality Scale which is evaluated after 2 weeks of use. Results: The results of the case study show that there is an improvement in sleep quality which is in accordance with previous research in managed patients, where the PSQS score before the intervention was 34 and decreased to 23 after four weeks of using aromatherapy. Conclusion: Evidence based practice bergamot essential oil can improve the sleep quality of postpartum mothers. Suggestion: It is hoped that health workers can provide an alternative non-pharmacological treatment for postpartum mothers with disturbed sleep patterns.
