Abstract
This research aims to identify what are the factors behind the interests of the United States in supporting separatism in Balochistan. This research uses a qualitative approach with interview methods and literature studies to collect the data. In analyzing the data, this research uses the concepts of geopolitics, national interest, and Graham Allison’s rational actor model of foreign policy theory. This study shows that there are at least two factors behind the United States’ interest in separatist groups in Balochistan: Geopolitical and Security factors. These interests are classified as primary interest because it is aimed at countering China’s growing influence in South Asia because of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) cooperation. The novelty of this research is that it explains the United States-China competition in South Asia in a landscape of separatism in Balochistan.
