Abstract

Labor has an important role in the economic development process, because it is the driver of the entire development process in achieving its goals. Therefore, an area can be said to be developed if its residents work and are able to produce output. Sulawesi Island has the 3rd largest population of the islands in Indonesia, the population is high and the labor force is increasing but this is not balanced with the availability of jobs which will cause the unemployment rate to increase, therefore there needs to be a driving factor to overcome the surge in the labor force . This research was conducted to determine the effect of investment, minimum wages and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) on labor absorption on Sulawesi Island. The samples used were 6 provinces on the island of Sulawesi, namely North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Teggara Sulawesi, Gorontalo and West Sulawesi Province with a 10 year period, namely 2012-2021, so there were 60 sample data used in this research. The data in this research is secondary data sourced from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the One Stop Integrated Service and Capital Naming Service (DPMTSP). This research uses Panel Data Regression Analysis techniques and Fixed Effect Models as the selected models, with the program used, namely Eviews-12. The basis for testing significance is 0.05 or 5%. The results of this research show that (1) Investment has no significant effect on labor absorption on Sulawesi Island (2) Minimum Wage and (3) GRDP has a significant effect on labor absorption on Sulawesi Island.
