Abstract

Insufficient sources of funding obstruct the nation's economic advancement. Efforts involve Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) financing scheme. ASEAN, a geopolitical and economic alliance, is also closely tied to foreign funding such FDI. Nevertheless, FDI inflow into ASEAN does not consistently align with its constituent nations’ progress. Factors impacting FDI inflows include institutional quality (political stability), macroeconomic stability (exchange rate), and market size (GDP per capita). The research hypothesized that foreign funding in the five ASEAN countries: Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand, is significantly influenced by political stability, currency rates, and per capita income. Applying the Electric approach to International Production theory (O-L-I paradigm), the research utilized a panel data, a combination of time series data and cross section data approach with a Fixed Effect Model (FEM) which is developed into Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS) and classical assumptions to analyze the results. The samples used in this research employed a non-probability technique from the ASEAN region spanning the period 2002-2022 and were processed using the Stata 17 software application. The findings of the research indicate a correlation between the political stability, exchange rates, and GDP per capita of the five ASEAN member nations encouraging for the inflow of FDI.
