Abstract

Zakat is the fourth pillar of Islam and is considered one of the financial tools in Islam that can significantly support the improvement of education quality, especially through educational scholarship programs. However, in reality, the allocation of zakat to beneficiaries in the education sector has not fully optimized poverty reduction. Additionally, the dropout rate and the quality of human development have not reached the expected levels. As a result, the education sector in Indonesia still faces various challenges in its implementation. This research evaluates the effectiveness of zakat funds for the Masa Depan Jakarta (MDJ) scholarship program by Baznas DKI Jakarta in enhancing the human development of recipients. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive research method, the study sources primary data from interviews and secondary data from various sources, including journals and official reports. Findings show that the distribution of zakat funds for the MDJ scholarship program is effective, meeting criteria for precision, awareness, goals, and monitoring. Additionally, the scholarship funds positively impact for human development, increasing life expectancy, years of schooling, and purchasing power.
