Abstract
This research began with the author's observation when he saw his cousin recording the wedding envelope money that had been received. Curiosity fueled the author to research this phenomenon. This research aims to reveal the reasons underlying the phenomenon of recording envelope money in Malaka II Village from an accounting scientific point of view. This research uses qualitative methods and the paradigm used is interpretive then for the approach uses ethnomethodology. Researchers obtained data by conducting interviews, observations, and documentation. Researchers used 4 stages of ethnomethodology in analyzing data. The results of this study are: 1). Marsih considers that wedding envelope money is a payable gift while Sini, DF, Anggita, and Amroini consider that wedding envelope money is purely a gift, 2). Apart from Anggita who made the recording because of teaching from her parents, all informants made the recording on the basis of personal initiative, 3). Recording is done to maintain feelings and friendship.
