Abstract
Surgery is a treatment procedure using invasive techniques through incision to reveal the part of the body to be treated. One of the complication of surgery is surgical site infection. Surgical site infection is an infection that appears in postoperative incision scars. The use of prophylactic antibiotics is a way to prevent surgical site infections. Objective: This study aimed to determine the rationality of the use of antibiotics in clean contaminated surgery patients. Method: This research is a descriptive observational using cross sectional design involving patients who received prophylactic antibiotics and underwent clean contaminated surgery procedures at General Hospital Bhakti Yudha in 2022. Result: the result obtained from 71 medical records, with the majority of gender is female 48 patients (67,6%), the age group 18-30 years old were 36 patients (50,7%), and the type of appendectomy operation was 27 patients (38,0%). Ceftriaxone is the most used antibiotics, followed by cefazolin and levofloxacin. The rationality of antibiotic use in 43 patients (60,6%) was included in category 0, category I (time of administration) was 22,5%, category IVD (spectrum) was 15,5%, and category IVA (effectiveness) was 1,4%. Conclusion: The use of prophylactic antibiotics in clean contaminated surgical patients based on the Gyssens method, 43 patients (60.6%) were declared rational and 28 patients (39.4%) were categorized as irrational.
