Abstract
Butterfly pea flowers (Clitoria ternatea L.) with a concentration of 37% proved to contain anthocyanin compounds that act as antioxidants. Gel serum is a cosmetic preparation with a high concentration of active ingredients, low viscosity, and a less clear look. The addition of gelling agents can affect the physical properties of gel preparations, so it requires physical properties tests to obtain good preparations. This study aims to determine the effective combination of carbopol 940 and triethanolamine (TEA) concentrations as a gelling agent and determine the results of physical evaluation of the combination of carbopol 940 variations of 0,5%, 1%, 1,5%, and 2% and TEA of 1%, 1,5%, 2%, and 2,5%. The method used in this research is experimental laboratory research by making five types of face serum gel formulations containing methanol-HCl extract from butterfly pea flowers. Evaluation of the physical properties of the preparation includes organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, dispersion, adhesion, accelerated stability test, and hedonic test. The results showed the effect of a combination of carbopol 940 and TEA concentrations on the preparation of face serum gel methanol-HCl extract of butterfly pea flowers. The conclusion of this study shows that Formula IV with a concentration of carbopol 940 1,5% and TEA 2% is the best formula and meets the standard with results after 28 days showing a brown, extract odor, and semi-solid texture, homogeneous preparations, pH 7,56 ± 0,0543, viscosity 1121 ± 1,2472 cP, adhesion 6,6 ± 0,0816 second, and dispersion 5,1 ± 0,0816 cm.
