Abstract

Economic growth is a significant thing in a country's economy because it is one measure of a country's economic achievement. The driver of economic growth can be seen in international trade. International trade performance is part of the economic indicators and can be seen from the trade balance conditions. Trade balance surplus as the desired goal. A trade surplus is considered a sign of a country's economic prosperity. A surplus in the trade balance can show how export performance is superior to imports. Conversely, a deficit in the trade balance means that import performance is superior to export performance. This research is useful to determine the effect of economic growth, exchange rates, inflation, and foreign direct investment on the trade balance in China, India, Indonesia, and Pakistan in 2006–2021, so the number of samples is 64. The data in this study used secondary data obtained from the World Bank and the Central Bureau of Statistics. The process of testing the hypothesis in this study uses panel data regression analysis using the STATA 14 program. The results of the study show that the model chosen is the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) and that economic growth has no significant effect on the trade balance, while exchange rates, inflation, and foreign direct investment have a significant negative effect on the trade balance. Keywords: balance of trade, exchange rate, inflation, foreign direct investment
