Abstract
Composites are materials composed of two or more different materials combined together to create a new material. Carbon fiber is often used as a reinforcing fiber in composite manufacturing due to its strong and lightweight properties. Carbon fiber materials, particularly unidirectional carbon, have variable fiber orientations that can be utilized in composite fabrication. This research aims to test carbon fiber composites with vinyl ester resin, using different fiber orientations of 0°, 45°, and a combination of 0° and 45°. Two different tests were conducted, namely tensile testing following ASTM D3039 standard and compression testing following ASTM D6641 standard. The results showed that the 0° fiber orientation exhibited the most optimal values compared to the other variables in both tests conducted. In the tensile test, the maximum tensile stress and maximum load obtained were 921 MPa and 14,105 N, respectively. For the compression test, the maximum compressive stress and maximum load were found to be 359 MPa and 9,550 N.
