Abstract
Typhoid fever is caused by Salmonella typhi which treatment requires rational use of antibiotics. Irrational use of antibiotics can increase morbidity, mortality, spread of the disease, and health costs. This study aims to determine Direct Medical Cost contrast on the rationality of antibiotic use in adult patients with uncomplicated typhoid fever. This study use observational analytic approach with cross sectional design. The cost analysis used is Direct Medical Cost which is one kind of cost in Cost of Illness (COI) pharmacoeconomic type based on prevalence approach. Data were obtained from medical records and patient billing that fulfill the inclusion criteria. Cost data used is data obtained from hospital perspective. Assesment of rational antibiotic usage qualitatively performed using Gyssens method, and analysis of the Direct Medical Cost comparison on the rational use of antibiotic use unpaired T-test statistical test. Results show that there were 17 cases consist of 17.6% rational cases and 82.4% irrational cases. Irrational category is dominated the most by IV A (70.6%) and V (11.8%) categories. It can be concluded that there is no differences in direct medical cost of the rational use of antibiotic in adult inpatient with uncomplicated typhoid fever in Depok Regional Public Hospital 2017 – 2018 Period
