Abstract

Background: Hyperlipidemia is a disease with an increase in lipids in the blood. Hyperlidemia can cause an increase in the production of free radicals that interfere with the process of spermatogenesis. Parijoto fruit extract (Medinilla speciosa Blume) has the potential as an antioxidant capable of reducing blood lipid levels and increasing the process of spermatogenesis. This study aimed to test the effectiveness of parijoto fruit extract on histopathological improvement of seminiferus tubules in mice BALB/c strain with high fat diet. Methods: The study used a true experimental design for 7 days of acclimatization and 56 days of intervention with a sample of 30 mice divided into 6 groups, namely; K0 was given a standard diet and CMCNa, K(-) was given a high-fat diet and CMCNa, K(+) was given a high-fat diet and Simvastatin, P1 was given a high-fat diet and parijoto fruit extract at a dose of 5.6 mg/20gr/day, P2 was given high-fat diet and parijoto fruit extract at a dose of 8.4 mg/20gr/day, P3 was given a high-fat diet and parijoto fruit extract at a dose of 11.2 mg/20gr/day. The resulting preparations were read using a light microscope with 400x magnification using the Johnsen criteria. Results: K0 with a Johnsen score of 49, K+ with a Johnsen score of 40, K- with a Johnsen score of 22, P1 with a Johnsen score of 23, P2 with a Johnsen score of 38, P3 with a Johnsen score of 41. Conclusion: The best dose of parijoto fruit extract for histopathological improvement of seminiferus tubules is 11.2 mg/20/day.
