Abstract
Gastritis can be defined as an inflammatory process of the mucosa and submucosa of the stomach which is mainly caused by H. pylori. H. pylori is one of the most common infectious agents that colonize the stomach of more than 50% of the world's population. The high prevalence of this disease makes various kinds of treatments, both conventional and alternative, continue to be developed, one of which is the use of traditional plants, namely turmeric (C. longa L. .). This study aims to determine the potential of curcumin in turmeric (C. longa L.) rhizome as an anti-inflammatory in gastritis caused by H. pylori infection. Methods: Systematic literature review with literature search using PubMed and Google Scholar. The literature obtained was selected using the PRISMA-P method which resulted in 8 journals according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The 8 researched journals concluded that the curcumin compound contained in the rhizome of C. longa L. has an anti-inflammatory effect on gastritis caused by H. pylori infection. Conclusion: administration of curcumin compounds in turmeric rhizome (C. longa L.) has the potential to reduce inflammation caused by H. pylori bacteria. The mechanism underlying the pharmacological activity of curcumin is to inhibit the release of several cytokines and inflammatory mediators such as IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-9, IL-10, IL-23a, IFN-ɣ, TNF-, MMP-3. , MMP-9, TLR, COX-2, NF-kB and iNOS. Curcumin can also increase the production of AP-1 which is a real induction factor of 15-PGDH, which is a factor regulating the intracellular level of PGE2 which is a pro-inflammatory compound.
