Abstract
The savonius wind turbine is a wind energy conversion system for areas with low wind speeds. The savonius wind turbine has a low power coefficient, therefore to improve the performance of the savonius wind turbine, it is necessary to add components around it, namely the Omni Directional Guide Vane (ODGV). The ODGV can receive wind from all directions and the direct the airflow to the turbine rotor to increase the power coefficient. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using the number of turbine blades and the of ODGV blades on the value of the power coefficient. This research was conducted using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. Variations in the number of turbine blades used are 2, 3 dan 4 and the number of ODGV blades are use 8, 10 and 12. Each variation is tested at wind speed of 3.74 m/s and at a TSR of 0,1 – 0,5 with an interval od 0,1. The turbine with variant of 2 blades and 8 blades ODGV produces the highest power coefficient of 0.113 at a TSR of 0.4.
