Abstract

The 2024 Central Java gubernatorial election showcased fascinating local political dynamics. Central Java, which had been dominated by the PDIP for approximately 20 years and was often referred to as the “bull’s den,” saw that dominance shattered by KIM Plus a national coalition formed shortly after the 2024 general election. This study aims to analyze the political strategies employed by KIM Plus in securing the 2024 Central Java gubernatorial victory for Ahmad Luthfi and Taj Yasin, thereby undermining the PDIP’s dominance in Central Java. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through interviews and a literature review. The research approach aims to gain an in-depth understanding of KIM Plus’s political strategies in securing the victory of Ahmad Luthfi and Taj Yasin in the 2024 gubernatorial election. The analysis in this study draws on Peter Schroder’s theory of political strategy, which encompasses offensive and defensive strategies. The research findings show that KIM Plus employed conventional strategies, with the most successful sequence being: (1) Partnering with national figures, (2) Strategies to maintain the voter base, (3) Personality-based strategies. Meanwhile, the most successful digital strategies, in order of content performance, were: (1) Content featuring Luthfi alongside Joko Widodo, (2) Personal content featuring Taj Yasin with his wife, (3) Instagram content from the Central Java PKB Provincial Executive Board (DPW) focusing on campaign structure consolidation.
