Abstract
This study aims to analyze the institutionalization of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) during the period of 2019 to 2024, encompassing the political phenomena following the Party's Fifth Congress in 2019 through the 2024 General Election. As the winning party of the 2014 and 2019 General Elections, PDI Perjuangan presents a compelling case study given the significant internal political turbulence it faced, including the fragmentation of cadre solidarity, the erosion of intra-party cohesion, and a decline in electoral performance in the 2024 General Election. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method, integrating the party institutionalization concept by Basedau and Stroh with the three faces of party theory by Katz and Mair. The findings indicate that the institutionalization of PDI Perjuangan throughout 2019 to 2024 proceeded inconsistently across the three faces of the party, wherein the party in the central office assumed an excessively dominant role that narrowed the autonomy of the other party faces, thereby generating internal conflict that adversely affected the party's electoral performance in the 2024 General Election. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a positive contribution to the literature on party institutionalization studies in Indonesia.
