Abstract
This study analyzes the representation of social class inequality in the Dressrosa Arc of the *One Piece* anime. It employs a descriptive qualitative approach using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis, examining discourse through three dimensions: text, social cognition, and social context. Karl Marx’s theory of social class inequality serves as the interpretive framework to reveal power relations between the ruling and oppressed classes represented through dialogue, narrative, and visual elements. The findings show that social class inequality is represented through class relations, exploitation of labor, the body, and social identity, domination by the ruling class, loss of freedom and humanity, and structural inequality. In the textual dimension, these representations are constructed through dialogue, narrative, and visual symbols depicting the power relations between the Donquixote Family and the people of Dressrosa. In the social cognition dimension, they reflect Eiichiro Oda’s criticism of oppression, exploitation, and social injustice. The social context dimension demonstrates similarities to real-world conditions characterized by class disparities, labor exploitation, abuse of power, and social injustice. This study concludes that the Dressrosa Arc functions not only as entertainment but also as a communication medium representing criticism of power structures and social class inequality.
