Abstract

Catamarans are a type of multihull vessel that offer superior stability and the potential for lower resistance compared to monohull vessels. For high-speed ships, one method commonly used to reduce resistance is the installation of an interceptor at the stern of the hull. This study aims to analyze the effect of interceptor position variations on the total resistance of a catamaran using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. The interceptor position variations analyzed include configurations without an interceptor, full interceptor, partial near keel, and partial near side. Simulations were conducted using ANSYS Fluent at Froude numbers of 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2. The simulation results indicate that total resistance increases with increasing Froude number. The use of a full interceptor provides the lowest total resistance value, with a resistance of 13.9 N compared to the other variations, although the difference is relatively small, with a resistance reduction of approximately 1.03%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the full interceptor configuration is the most optimal in reducing the total resistance of the catamaran under the conditions of this study.
