Abstract
Drug availability is a key indicator of the quality of pharmaceutical services in hospitals, as ineffective drug management lead to discrepancies between drug requirements and availability, thereby affecting patient care. This study aimed to analyze drug management practices in relation to drug availability at the Pharmacy Unit of Bhayangkara Hospital Bogor City in 2025. A qualitative approach using purposive sampling, involving the Head of the Pharmacy Installation, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy unit staff as informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, document review, and analyzed using thematic analysis with source and method triangulation. The findings showed that drug management including planning, procurement, storage, distribution, were generally implemented in accordance with applicable regulations. However, several challenges remained, including shortages of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians resulting in multitasking, the use of Google Spreadsheets for inventory recording without integration with the Hospital Management Information System (SIMRS), and the absence of the ABC-VEN analysis method for inventory control. These limitations reduced the effectiveness of inventory management and could potentially affect drug availability. Strengthening pharmacy human resources, implementing an integrated SIMRS, and adopting the ABC-VEN method are recommended to improve inventory management and ensure optimal drug availability and service quality in hospitals.
