Abstract
This study examines the process of meaning-making and social interaction within AROHA fandom digital activism and its contribution to the reputation-building of the virtual community @astrohaworld_id. This phenomenon is significant as K-Pop fans, who are often associated with negative stereotypes, have increasingly engaged in social initiatives through digital platforms. While digital activism is commonly associated with large-scale K-Pop fandoms, smaller fandom communities have also begun to participate in social causes. This research employs a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method to understand participants’ lived experiences, with Symbolic Interactionism serving as the theoretical framework. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the community owner and members. The analysis is based on Blumer’s Symbolic Interactionism, focusing on meaning, social interaction, and interpretation. The findings reveal that digital activism is understood as a form of worldly-afterlife balance, image redefinition, legitimacy enhancement, and collective value representation. These meanings are constructed through social interactions among community members, resulting in a shared understanding of the objectives and collective significance of social activities. The use of Instagram features on the @astrohaworld_id account, including posts, captions, hashtags, and pinned content, serves as a representation of the community’s collective values to the public. Furthermore, public responses are interpreted by community members as references for maintaining and evaluating future activities. Overall, digital activism conducted through @astrohaworld_id contributes significantly to the formation and strengthening of the virtual community’s reputation.
