Abstract
This study aims to explore in depth the interpersonal communication experiences of generation Z women who grew up without a father figure with their social environment using the Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological concept, interpersonal communication concept, fatherless concept, and generation Z concept. The method used is qualitative phenomenology. The sampling technique used nonprobability sampling with the snowball sampling technique. The author used Clark Moustakas’ analysis technique. The results of the study show that fatherlessness is interpreted as a life experience that underlies the way generation Z women build interpersonal relationships with the social environment, rooted in the lack of father involvement in the development of children which gives rise to social comparison experiences that cause obstacles in self-disclosure. In addition, informants also try to build emotional closeness with the social environment through self-disclosure, seeking emotional validation, and building positive friendships to gain attention, acceptance, support, and comfort which are the goals they want to achieve through interpersonal relationships that are built, so that the experience of fatherlessness is interpreted as a process of seeking emotional closeness in the interpersonal relationships of fatherless generation Z women with their social environment.
