Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a disorder in which there is a narrowing and compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel which is characterized by radiating pain, numbness and tingling in the fingers that can interfere with the patient's functional activities. Generally, this condition occurs due to continuous repetitive movements that increase the pressure on the median nerve. CTS is more common in women than men with a ratio of 5:1 and its prevalence in the general population ranges from 1% to 5% in Indonesia. The purpose of this case study is to determine the management of physiotherapy in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome sinistra. This management method uses a case study with a 43-year-old female subject at Dr. Mintohardjo Hospital conducted on April 1, April 6, April 9 and April 13, 2026, with instruments used in the form of Visual Analog Scale for pain examination, Manual Muscle Testing for muscle strength examination, and Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionare for functional ability examination. The interventions provided were in the form of Ultrasound, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, and Tendon Gliding Exercise for 3 times of therapy. The results of the evaluation after three therapy sessions showed a decrease in silent pain from 4.7 to 2.9, pressure pain from 5.1 to 3.1, and motion pain from 5.7 to 3.2. Increased muscle strength was found in the wrist flexor muscle group from a value of 3 to a value of 4. In addition, there was an increase in functional ability shown through a decrease in the Syndrome Severity Scale score from 26 to 17 and a decrease in the Functional Symptom Scale score from 14 to 11, indicating a shift from the moderate to mild disability category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the combination of Ultrasound, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, and Tendon Gliding Exercise interventions has been shown to be effective in reducing pain, increasing muscle strength, and improving functional ability in patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Sinistra.
