Abstract

Disparities in rice production across regions are one of the challenges in achieving food security in South Sumatra Province. The availability of agricultural resources plays an important role in determining the success of high rice production in a region. This study aims to examine how the characteristics of agricultural resources can explain the achievement of high rice production through the analysis of four causal conditions, namely harvested land area, agricultural machinery (water pumps), population density, and flood disasters. The research method uses fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). The object of this study comprises 17 regencies or cities in South Sumatra Province in 2024. The results show that the characteristics of agricultural resources in explaining the level of achievement of high rice production in South Sumatra Province consist of two pathways. Pathway one, with a combination of optimal agricultural machinery, non-optimal population density, and non-optimal flood disasters, is found in 3 regencies or cities. Pathway two shows optimal harvested land area, optimal agricultural machinery, and non-optimal population density in 3 regencies or cities.
