Abstract

Food diversification is an important strategy for strengthening national food security due to Indonesia’s high dependence on rice as the main staple food. This issue is strongly related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty) and Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). This study aims to identify and rank the level of food diversification across 34 provinces in Indonesia in 2024 using a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach with the PROMETHEE method. The study applies positive indicators consisting of maize, cassava, sweet potato, potato, and sago production, while the negative indicators include the number of poor people, the Food Consumer Price Index (CPI), and the number of natural disaster events. The results show that South Sulawesi has the highest level of food diversification, followed by East Java and Central Java. Meanwhile, DKI Jakarta records the lowest level of food diversification, followed by North Kalimantan and Bangka Belitung Islands. These findings indicate that provinces with stronger and more diverse non-rice local food production tend to perform better in supporting national food security.
