Abstract
Palm oil is a strategic plantation commodity that plays a vital role in Indonesia’s economy. However, significant production disparities remain among major producing provinces despite similar economic conditions. This study analyzes palm oil production conditions in the ten largest producing provinces in Indonesia in 2024 using the Crisp-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (csQCA) method with TOSMANA software. Four causal conditions are examined: average worker wages, number of workers, domestic investment realization, and non-oil export value. The findings identify three regional characteristics: optimal (Central Kalimantan, North Sumatra, and Riau), non-optimal (South Sumatra, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan), and contradictory (Bengkulu, Jambi, West Kalimantan, and West Sumatra). The contradictory cluster indicates that identical causal configurations may produce different outcomes, suggesting the influence of structural factors beyond the model. These findings highlight that improving palm oil production requires region-specific strategies rather than a uniform policy approach.
